I've finished another plane and have finally flown the (2 month old) Goldberg Mirage.  Here is my rating on this rather good kit:

GOLDBERG MIRAGE 550.  Rating **** (4 stars)

Goldberg Thrustmaster 550 motor, 8x4 wooden prop, 3 ch radio (R, E and AstroFlight #217 speed control), 7x1500 cell pack, 350 mAh Rx battery.  All-up weight 50 oz.  A beautiful, stable flying airplane with quite adequate power.  Kit builds easy, wing very strong, excellent molded plastic cowling.  ROG in about 15 feet, climbed steadily, flew with excellent stability.  Very responsive to controls. Only reason not a 5 star is that fuselage internal layout could be handier.  Otherwise, excellent, well thought out kit.

Need Information and Photos for New Column
Dereck Woodward - email:woodwadd@erols.com

My year started well in advance - I got an e-flight column in EFI!
Naturally, the aim is
sports flying (My kinda guy! km).  No soarers, no welders, no flopping around on inadequate power.  The aim is to get accomplished modellers out flying quiet power aircraft that can taxy out on their own wheels, take  off, fly with authority and taxy off after landing. We'll make an exception for Speed 400 which is too much fun to ignore.  It'll be a showcase for the likes of the middle range models that get left out of KRC reports as the big guys get the press.
What the new column needs is input from the guys who have got sports models to work (otherwise you get my version :-).  If any of you folks can help out with photos of successful sports electrics (like Tigershark, for one) I'd love to hear from you.
EFI runs on glossy paper prints and cannot handle electronic shots yet.  My snail trail address is:

Zagi Flying Wing
Randy Severino email: pazzosev@worldnet.att.net

Here is a zagi wing I converted with an astro 05 direct on 7 cells, fast!

I am now making a five foot wing span version using the Zagi airfoil.  I am making it of one pound foam and it only weighs 43 oz and I will use an Astro 035 geared with a 11x7 prop on

New Tandy Catalog

Tandy Corporation has a new subsidiary, Tech America, to provide electronics components for hobbyists and others.  A catalog is available from Radio Shack dealers for $2.95.  Sales are made by telephone or through the mail.  Unlike other mail-order electronics houses there is no minimum order and individual items can be purchased such as a single resistor, capacitor or LED.  Minimum shipping charge is $4.00 and there is a $3.00 discount on first purchases.

7 cells at 23 amps.
The first  Zagi was mariginal and used the 05 direct with an 8x4.  I will see how the new scratch-built wing will fly. I need a little more wing area, so I will cut my own foam and try it. I will let you know.

Since I am not a very good kit builder yet, a lot of the planes and sailplanes that I build and fly are ARFs. This kit, is made by a company called Hacker Model Production, from Czech Republic. One thing about the Hacker kits, the instructions are very lax, even for an ARF, an inexperienced builder has to be very careful when putting one of their ARFs together.
Instructions were on a 11" x 16" piece of paper.  Construction was started by joining the two wing halves together. The dihedral brace in this model is actually a piece of heavy gauge bent music wire. Joining the two halves was not a problem. Before adding the tail and continue
