Ken, 3 years ago I was at your July electric fun fly and won the Twin Star ARF. You can see by the picture the plane was converted to a float plane. I fly it from water and land. For land flights I remove the wing floats. As you said, this is a very nice flying RC. ![]() I am using Badass motors, Badass ESCs, APC 8x6 props (normal on left and pusher on right) and a 3S 2200mAh LiPo. I don't remember the motor size and wind. Motor Differential is used for steering. ![]() It is not my only float plane. My Martin MARS has a 120" wingspan and weighs 27 pounds. It uses Leopard motors and 4S 2000mAh LiPos. It is made from construction foam from Menards. It is covered with .020" veneer from Home Depot. I also flies from water or land. Have a good one. Return to "What's In This Issue" Beware of Scam Website selling BadAss, Cobra and Tempest Brushless Motors!
We just discovered that there is a new website which has popped up that contains stolen content from our website on it. They are attempting to sell our BadAss, Cobra and Tempest motor brands, as well as our line of 3D-Printed Motor Mounts on this site at huge discounts. The web address of this new site is: https://www.salesbrushlessmotors.com/ This website is not associated with us in any way, and they do not have any products to sell, so please do not fall victim to this scam! Please pass this information on to anyone else that you know in the hobby, so we can make sure that nobody gets scammed by this unauthorized dealer offering to sell our products in able to steal money from unsuspecting customers. Best Regards,
RV-8 Comment
In the August 2025 issue of the Ampeer, I noted that I was very impressed with Mark Wolf's Flex Innovations RV-8 60E G2 Super PNP Electric Airplane as flown at the 2025 Mid-Am. He sent along the following email. ![]() Hi Ken! I just read the latest Ampeer. Thanks again for a great event! The RV does use more channels than you might expect but it uses 2 aileron channels for Crow mixing as well as channels to control gyro modes and if you go with the night flyer option you can control the lights remotely as well. It is important to note that the Aura gyro system included with the RV can use SBUS from the receiver. With many radio systems you don't actually need a 7+ channel receiver as the only output you'll be using is SBUS. For example, with Spektrum, you can fly the plane with just a Spektrum satellite receiver. No need to buy an eight channel unit. She isn't a cheap bird to be sure...but if you told me I could only have one plane in my fleet...it would be that one. Keep an eye out for sales on Flex's web site. Sometimes you can get a break on the price of the carbon gear or floats. Mark Wolf A Charger Warning
I was very lucky my charger picked the charging station at our field to go nuclear. I was charging a pair of SMC 6S 5000mAh on my ISDT P10 dual output charger at 5 amps. Less than 125 watts per side on 29VDC. Less than half the rated capacity. I went to check on them and the display was dark. ![]() Then I realized the charger had melted down. One battery is fine. The other one has a good voltage of 25V but the balance tap is welded to the chargers balance board. It may be salvageable with a replacement balance plug if the insulation in the leads isn't compromised. I've charged those two packs dozens of times since I picked them up at SEFF. Including on my fireplace hearth and the plastic tables at Jet Jam. Any other location could have been much worse. I don't think it was caused by anything the batteries did since they didn't go off. I have never seen a charger just melt down either though. Pete The Midwest RC Society and EFO Joint Meeting and Midwest Open House What Grand and Glorious Day!!! Saturday, August 2nd could not have been a more perfect day for this Event. There was almost no wind, the temperature was mild and quite pleasant. The sky was clear, except for a tiny bit of Canadian wildfire smoke. Joe Hass brought the Mid-Am prizes that he had collected from our sponsors; Nankin Hobby West Michigan Park Flyers Prop Shop Hobbies Beacon Adhesives Thanks so much goes to Joe and our sponsors! Joe had those that had registered for the Mid-Am select a prize. ![]() Ken Sutton was there with his grandson. His grandson is just getting into RC flying. Joe "outfitted" him with a plane, motor, ESC, glue and more to get him started. Joe also distributed prizes to the Mid-West members. What about the other registrants of the Mid-Am? Well, Joe contacted them and sent them their raffle prizes. I mean a HUGE, HUGE thanks to Joe for taking this all on!!! Dave Stacer took on first flights for a whole family of visitors; mom, dad and the two boys. ![]() Dave can be seen flying one of his students in the background, while Roger Wilfong can be seen chatting with Joe and Chris Hass in the photo on the previous page. ![]() Here's a close up view of Dave and his student and the folks gathering in the background. ![]() Dave was a very, very busy guy! The photo shows him with his youngest introductory flight student, and there were many more to come. Ken Myers came out of retirement to fly another guest on his first RC introduction flight. Midwest RC Society president, Greg Eilers, provided that field lunch of hot dogs, chips and water. ![]() Denny Sumner manned the grill and everyone enjoyed the feast. ;-) Greg and Denny can just be seen behind the canopies. Thanks so much gentleman. ![]() Joe Hass and his son, Chris, demonstrated using galloping ghost for controlled RC flight with his AstroMite. Joe and Ken were the only ones there that had seen and used that method of RC flying. Keith Shaw had had a previous commitment. ![]() The Astromite had a great flight as Joe controlled it with this "old style" radio. Very nice! There was a lot of flying by the members of Midwest and the EFO. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day very, very much. ![]() Greg Eilers is owed a lot of thanks for setting up this event and presenting our hobby to the general public. It was a very successful day for that! To Reach Ken Myers, you can land mail to the address at the top of the page. My E-mail address is: KMyersEFO@theampeer.org |
