A Quick Overview of the Dead Rail "Systems" That I First Found

BlueRail Trains

BlueRail Trains notes, "BlueRail is a model train technology company with expertise in interface design, software development, and firmware that brings state-of-the-art smartphone control to model railroading."

The Bluetooth unit is not directly applicable to Dead Rail without a DCC decoder, but it does provide a 2.4GHz Bluetooth interface for DCC controllers through an iOS Smart Device. Android OS is in beta at this time.

This is a video of a BlueRail Trains' Install: Note the DCC decoder in tender.

The firmware and software interface are used by Tam Valley Depot for their BlueRailDCC board.

The BlueRail App is used with this TAM Valley system and demonstrated in this video.

The Bachmann EZ App, designed by BlueRail, appears to be discontinued. The relatively new Soundtraxx Blunami Wireless DCC decoder uses the BlueRail Trains' technology.

BlueRail Trains is now promoting the Soundtraxx Blunami DCC decoder.

Railroad Locomotives or The Dead Rail System - 2012

Tamalpais Valley Railroad (AKA Tam Valley Depot)

When not using their wireless DCC decoder, their transmitter needs to be added to a DCC command station and a receiver in the loco, or tender, going to the decoder.

The TAM Valley Depot BlueRail DCC board does not require the use of a separate DCC decoder to function, as it is a DCC decoder.

The S-Cab Throttle

Stanton S-Cab PDF

The system requires a DCC Decoder and their radio receiver to be installed onboard and their radio control transmitter.

They also have items required for battery power.

CVP Products

CVP AirWire 900

The system requires their proprietary throttle. It can be used with a DCC decoder.

DT RC Control Systems (Deltang)

Deltang is a company in the UK. The system requires their transmitter and receiver. They are no longer available directly in the USA.

Rail Pro by Ring Engineering

They do not recommend battery power, but there are individuals who have used this system for Dead Rail.

"There are customers that are running RailPro locomotives that are battery powered now. However, we do not believe that battery power is the best choice for the majority of users."

A Description of My Electric Power System for My Planes

Over the decades, the system, that I use in my planes, evolved. It now consists of five major components; a handheld controller/"RC transmitter", an onboard "RC receiver", an electric motor, an electronic speed controller (ESC), and a battery pack. The ESCs, that I use, actually have three major circuits in them. One controls the speed (RPM) of the motor. Another circuit reduces the input battery voltage to a lower voltage to power the RC receiver so that a lower voltage receiver battery does not have to be carried in the aircraft. It is known as the battery eliminator circuit or BEC. The third circuit provides a low voltage cutoff (LVC) so as not to damage the input battery by draining to too low of a voltage level, which can harm or destroy a battery.
